 Ning.com allows you create and join social networks based on your passions and interests. You have the freedom to create any social network you want, based on any topic!

Bebo.com provides another platform for social networking. Their unique draw is the LifeStream Platform which allows users to have their photos and information from Facebook, Myspace, YouTube, Flickr, Twitter and Delicious organized into a “lifestory” in an easy-to-use timeline for sharing.

 Meetup.com is not a traditional online network: the goal is to faciliate face-to-face meetings of groups. A meetup can be organized around an event or simply with like-minded individuals. There are plenty happening in the local area so be sure to check it out!

 FriendFeed.com makes a custom feed of all the content shared by your friends. You can sign up with a google, facebook or twitter account to get started. The big advantage to Friend Feed is that it’s fast, with a single click you can pull in information from lots of sources and stay up to date on your friends. 

 CouchSurfing.com “is a worldwide network for making connections between travelers and the local communities they visit.” It is more similar to meetup.com than the others. It is based around people meeting face-to-face, either for coffee or for brief lodging as they travel. There is a rating and validation system to ensure safety and you can specify the level of meeting you are comfortable with.
